State Propositions:
Proposition 14 –
NO – Stem Cell Research
The Independent says we already
gave a lot with Prop 71 and it is hard to explain why this is being
repeated now.
Proposition 15 –
YES – The CA Schools and Local Communities Funding Act of
2020
Reform Prop 13 to close tax loopholes; adds $12 billion
year to fund schools
Proposition 16 –
YES – Repeal Proposition 209 Affirmative Action
Amendment
Increases equity; allows schools and agencies to
consider race, sex, gender, and ethnicity
Proposition 17 – YES – Restores right to vote after completion of prison term
Proposition 18 – YES – Allows 17 Year Olds to Vote in Primary Elections if they are eligible to vote in the General Election
Proposition 19 –
NO – Property Tax Rule Change
It sounds so sweet to help
older and disabled homeowners. But it really looks like a real estate
lobby bill.
Proposition
20 – NO – Limits some parole and changes some misdemeanor
sentences to become felony sentences
A throwback to the "get
tough" ideas that ruin lives and waste money.
Watch
the movie "Where to Invade Next" to learn how civilized
countries have found far better solutions.
Proposition 21 –
YES – Allows local governments to expand renter protections.
A
horrible "Tenant Protection Act" was passed in 2019 that
helped lead to our eviction from my home of 31 years.
It limited
rents but allowed the landlord to evict tenants. In fact, the law is
an incentive to evict long-term tenants.
The State Legislature
is refusing to fix their horrific mistake. Please let local
governments help.
Proposition 22 –
UPDATE: NO POSITION – App-Based Drivers as Contractors and
Labor Policies Initiative
This proposition would deny Uber and
Lyft drivers the rights to minimum wage, social security, overtime,
etc.
But many of the drivers support this proposition.
Proposition 23 –
UPDATE: NO POSITION – Regulates
Kidney Dialysis Clinics
Two corporations (DaVita and Fresenius)
have a virtual monopoly on Kidney Dialysis and need to be reined in.
Proposition
24 – UPDATE:
NO POSITION
– Increases Consumer Privacy Protections
The League of
Women Voters of California opposes this proposition. Here you can
read their
analysis:
https://lwvc.org/vote/elections/ballot-recommendations/prop-24consumer-data-privacy
Proposition 25 –
YES – Replace Cash Bail with Risk Assessments Referendum
Cash
bail is discriminatory and antithetical to values of justice,
fairness and equity
